The World Health Organization (WHO) has raised the level of pandemic alert from 5 to 6. An explanation of the
change in alert status can be read on the WHO website.
Due to the alert change, the importance of continued diligence in our prevention strategies is evident. While the College continues to monitor developments in the H1N1 situation and will communicate them as they develop, you are encouraged to keep the following recommendations in mind at all times:
- Cover sneezes and coughs with a tissue or your elbow.
- Dispose of soiled tissue in the trash after use.
- Wash your hands. Wash your hands. Wash your hands. Wash them frequently with soap and water.
- Alcohol-based hand sanitizers are a good alternative if soap and water is not available.
- Do not share drinks.
- Anyone who falls ill should self-isolate (i.e., stay away from others). Depending on the severity of your symptoms, consider contacting your health-care provider.
- Anyone with influenza-like illness should stay isolated at home until free of symptoms for at least 24 hours.
