Ellen Ellsberg Edge, M.Ed., Director
I have been involved professionally in the Early Childhood Field for over fifteen years as both a teacher and an administrator. I have had the pleasure of working in a variety of settings, including the private not-for-profit, public schools, and Head Start. I have a Master's degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of Massachusetts and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Cooper Union School of Art. I also am an active member of the National Association for the Education of Young Children, and have served twice as President of the Western Massachusetts Association for the Education of Young Children. I am currently Public Policy Chair for the New Hampshire Association for the Education of Young Children.

Tara Kavanagh, A.A.S., Business Manager
I am a graduate of Paul Smiths College having earned an Associates degree with a major in forestry. The birth of my 2 sons sparked my interest in the field of early childhood education. In 1992, I had the opportunity to serve as Director/Teacher at Lake Sunapee Area Children's Center, Newbury NH, a NH licensed child care center providing quality care to children and their families in the Lake Sunapee area. To date, I continue working towards earning my Baccalaureate degree taking classes at Keene State College and Granite State College as my schedule permits.

Deirdre McPartlin, M.Ed., Academic Program Coordinator
I received a B.S. Education in Elementary and Special Education from Keene State College and a M.Ed from Antioch New England University, Keene, NH. Prior professional experience has included preschool and kindergarten teaching, director of a non-profit child care center and supervisor of pre-service teachers. Currently I am responsible for early childhood field placement supervision, EC Methods course instruction and administrative tasks related to the academic program at the Child Development Center.

Sarah Cooper-Ellis, M.A., Facilitating Teacher
I have worked with young children up to four years old in a variety of settings throughout my life, concentrating on Infants and Toddlers in my training and experience. My undergraduate degree is from Lesley College and I have a M.A. in Biological Sciences from Smith College. I worked at Smith College's early childhood center for twelve years and have been at the CDC since 2001.

Stephanie Quail, B.S., Early Childhood Teacher
I received my Bachelors of Science in Early Childhood Studies with a minor in Child Welfare and Family Studies in the winter of 2004 from Plymouth State University in Plymouth, NH. Immediately after graduating, I joined the Preschool teaching team at the Northfield Mount Hermon Campus Nursery School in Northfield, MA. At Northfield, I also administered a summer program for preschoolers for two summers. I came to the CDC as an Infant/Toddler teacher in the fall of 2006. I also have experience working with a variety of ages in laboratory schools, center and campus-based programs, family child care as well as Head Start for the past 10 years.

Kathleen Fagley, M.A., Early Childhood Teacher
I graduated from St. Joseph College in West Hartford, Ct. with a dual major in special education and child study. After graduation I taught in a variety of settings: a residential school for troubled boys in East Haddam, Ct., a special education classroom in Troy, NH and multi-aged classrooms in Sullivan. More recently, I received my Masters of Fine Art from New England College in creative writing/poetry. I have taught writing workshops to adults, children and high school students and publish my poetry in literary magazines. Currently I am a poetry editor for Amoskeag Journal. |

Peggy Mead, M.S., Facilitating Teacher
I graduated with a B.S. in Early Childhood Education from the University of Connecticut, and I received a M.S. from Eastern Connecticut University. I moved to Keene after accepting this position at Keene State College in 1984. I have been in the Toddler Classroom for twenty years, and I took a hiatus from the CDC for three years to teach kindergarten at Wheelock Elementary School.

Beth Mucci, M.S., Early Childhood Teacher
I have a Master of Science degree in Infant and Toddler Studies from Wheelock College in Boston, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Development from the University of Vermont. I have been teaching young children for twenty years. I worked at a Harvard University child care center, a Boston law firm child care center, a center in Brattleboro, Vermont and have been here at the CDC since January of 2000, working with infants and toddlers.

Younger Preschool Classroom

Carole Sands, M.A., Facilitating Teacher
I graduated from Wesleyan University, Middletown, CT, with a B.S. in psychology and a secondary individual major in child development. I hold a Master's degree in Infant and Toddler Studies from Wheelock College, Boston, MA. My first teaching position was as an early childhood teacher in the CDC's toddler room. I moved on to help develop the RISE full-time inclusive child care infant and toddler program in January 1988 and served as lead teacher there for two and a half years. I returned to the CDC in August of 1990 and have served as a Facilitating Teacher in the CDC younger preschool these past 17 years.

Karen Gutierrez, B.S., Early Childhood Teacher
I graduated from Keene State College with a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education and Developmental Psychology in 2000. I did coursework in the Infant and Toddler program and was a student teacher in the Preschool classroom. I have been at the CDC in the Preschool (now Younger Preschool) for the past 7 years. For two summers, I worked with children at a local summer camp. I also worked at the Keene Head Start preschool program in Keene for two years. Along with those professional positions, I have been babysitting children in both their homes and mine for many years.

Older Preschool Classroom

Stacey Haas Fortin, M.S., Facilitating Teacher
I came to the CDC from Phoenix, Arizona. I received a Bachelor of Science degree in Speech Pathology and Audiology as well as a Master's degree in Early Childhood Special Education from Northern Arizona University. I lived in Flagstaff, Arizona and worked in an Early Intervention program on the Navajo reservation with infants from 0-3 years old. Before moving to Swanzey, I was the Director of a Special Needs Preschool in Phoenix. I joined the CDC staff in 2003 as the Facilitating teacher in the infant room. After one year, a position opened up in the older preschool and I have been there ever since.

Carole Russell, B.S., Early Childhood Teacher
I received my Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education from Michigan State University. I have worked with young children from toddlers through Kindergarten age in a variety of roles including special education tutor, early childhood teacher and child care center director. I joined the staff at Keene State College in August 1997.

Stephanie Pratt, B.A., Early Childhood Teacher
Hello families and friends! I studied Music and Early Childhood Education at Skidmore College. After graduation I worked at the Children's Learning Center at Cheshire Medical Center for several years in the preschool and school-age programs. I currently live in Keene with my husband, Greg (a former student of the CDC) and our Beagle/Husky, Juno. We met and were married at Camp Takodah in Richmond, where I spent 15 summers (eight of which were working with children). When I am not at the CDC, I am an active musician and volunteer youth advisor. I also enjoy sewing, the outdoors, and sci-fi/fantasy television.
Stephanie divides her time between the younger and older preschool rooms.
