My Heart in a Suitcase

On March 20, 2008 The Cohen Center partnered with the Colonial Theater to bring, "My Heart In A Suitcase" to Keene.

The play, written for grades 5-9, tells the true story of Anne Lehmann, and the events that led to her boarding the Kindertransport in 1938, leaving Nazi Germany without her family, and finding safe haven in England.

Anne’s struggle to find peace amidst despair inspired the audience of over 850 students to think deeply about history and their own lives. Kindertransport survivors, a hidden child, and a German witness spoke on a panel following the play.

The panel was facilitated by the daughter of a Kindertransport survivor. Afterward, individual schools whose students had attended the performance were able to talk with survivors firsthand.
