German! The language of Mozart, Beethoven, Karl Marx, Kafka, Nietzsche, Sigmund Freud, Thomas Mann, and Fassbinder, to name only a few. To understand history, philosophy, music, psychology, world literature, and contemporary film, you should know German. Of course, since English is a Germanic language you'll also learn a great deal more English by studying German. What about travel? Visit Mozart's Salzburg, the Habsburg capital Vienna, Europe's banking center in Frankfurt, or the art treasures of Dresden. Sample student life in Heidelberg, ski the Austrian and Bavarian Alps, or visit Munich's Oktoberfest, which begins in September. Keene State College offers a German minor consisting of 18 credits. Students interested in pursuing an Individualized Major in German and a second discipline, such as English, History, or Management, should speak to Helen Frink. Those who begin college knowing some German, because of high school study, family background, or travel, should consult German faculty before signing up for courses. Students fluent in German may be able to earn some College credits through the CLEP test. |
