Tutor Program

Peer tutoring is offered for many introductory level courses. Tutoring is intended to supplement and complement the course as designed and presented by the instructor; it is not a replacement for the course. Tutoring brings together an individual student or a small group of students with a trained tutor to improve the skills essential for the course, address questions about the course content, organize a study plan, and build confidence. Tutoring is open to all students on campus yet subject to the availability of tutors.

Who Are Our Tutors?
Tutors are current Keene State students who may be eligible for work study or student hourly pay. (We hire based on qualifications, however.) Tutors must receive an A or B in the course or courses they wish to tutor and have an overall GPA of at least a 2.75 (3.0 preferred) and maintain that GPA. Tutors must communicate well and be willing to work with individuals or small groups, have a sincere desire to help, and have a high level of patience.

How Do I Become a Tutor?
If you are interested in becoming a tutor, please stop by the Aspire Program office to pick up an application and faculty recommendation form. We will also need a current copy of your transcript, which can be obtained from the Registrar's Office in the Elliot Center. Interview appointments may be made with Jennifer Drake-Deese, Tutor Coordinator, after the application and recommendation forms are complete and your transcript is obtained.

How Do I Request a Tutor?
All students requesting a tutor must meet with an Aspire Educational Counselor to complete the necessary paperwork. The tutor request form will ask you the specifics of your class (title, instructor, course number) as well as more detailed information such as your challenges in the class, how you think a tutor may support you, and your preferred way of learning.

For more information about the Tutor Program, contact Jennifer Drake-Deese at 603-358-2357, or jdrakedeese@keene.edu.
