Service Learning: Because the classroom can only prepare you for so much...
Helping others while challenging yourself academically makes your degree more valuable.
Many programs at Keene State require Service Learning. Students apply what they learn from their course work by working in the local community. These real-life working situations enhance student learning and help students meet their course goals.

Students in Professor Peter Temple's collaborative architectural project course, also known as Communicorps, (link to web story) design projects every year for local nonprofit organizations, such as affordable housing, community centers, a fire station, and school additions. The finished designs are then presented to the clients.

Dance Professor Marcia Murdock offers a course for students with dual majors in education and dance. "The students develop class plans, team teach, evaluate classes, and write about the experience. This experience may give my students something special to offer when looking for teaching positions. It also provides an arts opportunity to schools lacking the resources to provide their own." This year, twins Amy and Katie Pokrywka taught hip hop dance to children at Thayer Middle School in Winchester.
