The Value of a Hybrid Major
The physics major appeals to a broad range of students, who choose either Chemistry-Physics or Mathematics-Physics. The hybrid majors balance the two related disciplines, create competency in both, and expand students’ opportunities for employment in industry or the commercial sector, and professional growth through graduate studies.
Students interested in engineering may enter the three-year Engineering Transfer program, which ultimately leads to a BS in Mathematics-Physics from KSC and the appropriate degree from an engineering school, or a two-year transfer preparation leading to an engineering degree at another school.
Astronomy and meteorology are also taught within the Physics Department.
Students who pursue a physics minor find the program compatible with majors in mathematics, chemistry, and other sciences. With a dual major in Education, Chemistry-Physics students can be certified to teach in secondary schools.
