2010 Alumna Leah Turton, RD, Clinical Dietitian at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, Virginia
“I cannot go on enough about how much I loved my time at Keene State College,” says 2010 graduate Leah Turton. “With a passion for wellness and community nutrition education, I was drawn to the College’s Dietetic Internship. It did not disappoint! The program offers unique opportunities to use your undergraduate nutrition training in a variety of arenas. It also works hard to tailor rotations to individual intern interests.”
Among Turton’s favorite rotations were: providing nutrition education to refugees; creating an Alton Brown-inspired cooking demo for teens; and partnering with Head Start after school programs.
“While my current position is at a hospital in clinical dietetics,” she says, “I feel my community/wellness-focused preparation with Keene State only strengthened my abilities to perform as a clinical dietitian. I am daily challenged to be the nutrition expert and advocate for patients while remaining flexible and acting as part of a cohesive, medical team – traits that were developed as a KSC intern.”
