Dr. Barlow is currently the Criminal Justice Studies Program coordinator and co-chair of the KSC IRB. She received a Ph.D. in Sociology with an emphasis in Crime & Deviance and Gender Studies from Virginia Tech in 2013. Her teaching and research revolves, generally, around topics within criminology, gender, race, deviance, and culture.

Current Courses: Criminology; Women and Crime; Research Methods; Sociology of Deviance; Social Problems; Race, Crime, and the Media, Corrections, Rehabilitation, & Re-entry.

Dr. Barlow's current research focuses on mixed-methods research with incarcerated women, specifically investigating the link between coping with trauma through substance abuse, and the ways in which incarcerated women exercise agency through beauty rituals. Her previous research focused on deviant behavior, investigating workplace deviance within the hair salon industry, and on organizational factors related to the production of culture in the beauty industry.
