The David F. Putnam Science Center - Where Good Chemistry Happens
Chemistry occupies the second floor of the state-of-the-art Putnam Science Center, with ample space for classrooms, labs, independent study projects, and the array of major instrumentation and specialized apparatus used daily by chemistry students. This equipment includes a new atomic absorption unit; infra-red, UV/Vis, and gas chromatographic-mass spectrophotometers as well as a Fourier Transform NMR spectrometer; single crystal X-ray diffractometer; and other equipment.
Students learn how to use this equipment in introductory courses and employ it extensively in upper-level courses and subsequent research projects. Lab computers are loaded with software used throughout introductory and advanced courses.
