If you’re interested in traveling to the Carribean, scuba diving, and learning about fascinating Coral Reef environments, INBIO 104 Tropical Marine Biology is your ticket to paradise! And it fulfills your Integrated Studies natural science requirement! You don’t even have to be a bio major to take this four-credit spring course—in fact, the only requirement is that you have SCUBA certification. Don’t have it? No problem; you can become certified on the trip.
The class visits the Turks and Caicos Islands for a week in mid-May but meets during the spring semester, beginning in January, for trip orientation and an introduction to marine biology. The course gives you a comprehensive overview: You’ll study the entire coral reef ecosystem, from the properties of the water, to the phyto- and zooplankton, to sponges, mollusks and annedlids, to the fish you’ll likely be seeing. If you’re interested, please contact Dr. Karen Cangialosi, Dept. of Biology, 358-2578, ASAP.
Estimated total cost (with prior SCUBA certification) is $2950, including airfare, food, lodging, island transportation, SCUBA diving, snorkeling, kayaking, insurance, and other excursions. SCUBA certification is an additional $250. Space is limited to eight students. In order to register for the course, you must pay a $500 non-refundable deposit (checks made out to Keene State College) and get a signed registration slip.
