Our photography program includes both digital and film-based photography. We have a full darkroom as well as a digital printing studio that includes a film scanner, professional printers, and a 44-inch mural printer.
Students will learn manual camera controls, Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop, darkroom techniques, and digital output. We regularly bring visiting photographers from NY and Boston to Keene State for a series of exhibitions at the Carroll House Gallery and public lectures and workshops.
“When I took photography, Photo 1 was all film. We were taught the basics of camera exposure and how the camera and lens work. We were then thrown into the darkroom to develop and print our photos. Being in the darkroom is like no other experience. You learn to be patient and you learn to be humble. … Being inside a small room with 10 other students forces you to connect and work off of each other in a way that is constructive and creative. My education as a photographer didn’t stop at Keene State College, I take those lessons with me everywhere I go.”
