Greetings to the Keene State College community!
Greetings to the Keene State College community! I am very happy to have the opportunity to introduce myself as the new Dean of Mason Library. I arrived in early August and am enjoying getting to know the campus, all of my new colleagues, and the local area. I spent 22 years at St. Mary’s College of Maryland, the last 12 as Director of the Library & Media Center. St. Mary’s is also a public liberal arts college located in Historic St. Mary’s City, the first capitol of Maryland, right on the St. Mary’s River. I am originally from New York and have lived in Wisconsin, Jerusalem (Israel), and New Jersey. This is my first chance to live somewhere with beautiful mountains and I love it.
Before getting my MLS at Rutgers University, I received a PhD in Theology from Fordham University where I focused on the period of Christian history from the 1st-4th century. At St. Mary’s I occasionally taught a course in religious studies and mentored several student senior projects. I also taught lots of library instruction classes, met with students to help with research, and other assorted library director activities. I was the faculty advisor to the campus LGBTQ club and Hillel club. My research interests are in library instruction, especially in looking at how students think about writing and research and how library faculty and classroom faculty can work together better. I am also really interested in the library as a space on campus. I know there are lots of ideas about new initiatives for Mason Library and I look forward to working with colleagues around campus on them. . I am currently on the Board of Directors for the College Library Directors’ Mentor Program and have served on the executive council of the College Libraries Section of the Association of College & Research Libraries.
I am looking forward to my 4 cats and 1 dog joining me here. You should know that I am a life-long NY Mets fan which means I am loyal and patient. I enjoy going to the movies, getting outside to walk, and reading. But mostly I really love being a librarian and I am excited about my new library and getting to meet all of you. I hope you will stop by my office to say hello or invite me to join you for coffee or a walk around campus. Celia
