Ireland: University of Limerick
Keene State College has an agreement with the University of Limerick. The University of Limerick is located along the River Shannon near the city of Limerick on Ireland’s west coast. It is one of the newest university’s in Ireland and some aspects of the campus and teaching style is modeled after the United States’ educational system. The University of Limerick is noted for its innovative programs which include the “UL Experience”, and the strong sense of community on campus. It has excellent sports facilities and support, and its university arena is Ireland’s largest indoor sports complex.
More than 11,000 students study at the University of Limerick at the undergraduate and post graduate levels. There are four faculties: The Kemmy Business School and the faculties of Education & Health; Sciences; and Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences. The University of Limerick has agreements with 207 partner institutions and receives study away students from the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, China and Singapore. The University of Limerick has a modern and comprehensive campus located on 600-acres. A wide variety of courses, called modules, are offered. An initial orientation helps students get oriented to the campus and life in Ireland.
The University of Limerick is located three miles from the center of the city of Limerick, the fifth most populace city in Ireland and the principal one in Ireland’s Mid-West Region. Limerick City is situated on several curves and islands of the River Shannon. Traditionally considered a “working class” city, it is easily accessible to both coasts of Ireland as well as Shannon airport. Its historic sites include King John’s Castle and St. Mary’s Cathedral.
