Honor Society Funding

Purpose: The purpose of funding is to promote an intellectual environment in which students extend the reach of their academic experiences.

The Enrichment Funding Committee consists of three students representing an honor society in each school; two honor society advisors and the Associate Provost.

$5500 annually is dedicated to meeting funding requests. There are twenty honor societies and the committee attempts to ensure that each honor society has the opportunity to receive funds toward sponsored activities and events. Half the fund is directed toward requests received in the fall and half toward requests received in the spring. Enrichment activities are defined by the mission of each academic honor society. However, there must be an academic component for any activity or event to be funded. Individual or society projects that are funded must be related to the discipline. The proposal may be from an individual honor society, from the Council of Academic Honor Societies, or may be a joint proposal from two or more honor societies.

If travel of more than five miles from campus will occur, the funding will be dependent on all travel policies being adhered to including final approval from the Director of Student Involvement, Jennifer Ferrell. http://www.keene.edu/travel/student-travel/ In your pre-approval request to the Director of Student Involvement, be sure to check the HSF as the "Secondary Trip Sponsor in the box that reads "Please list any other trip sponsors including all KSC funding sources".

No funding will occur until the Associate Provost's office (Donna Ward) has been notified that the Director of Student Involvement, Jennifer Ferrell has given final approval for travel.

Criteria for requesting enrichment funding:

1. Identify how the activity and event promotes academic excellence and relates to the mission of the honor society.
2. Identify the objectives of the activity or event.
3. Identify how students will benefit from participating in the activity or event.
4. Be sure the proposal is signed by an advisor and the president of the honor society making the request.
5. Submit a complete itemized budget.

Criteria for evaluating proposals:

All criteria for requesting enrichment funding must be met. Typically requests are funded in the $300-500 range. However, the number of students participating, the location of the activity or event, and other funding sources will impact the amount of funding an honor society might be awarded.

Deadlines: Proposals will be reviewed by the Academic Enrichment Funding Committee four times during the academic year on the following deadline schedule:

• during the fall semester - the first Fridays in October and November
• during the spring semester – the first Fridays in February and March
