spacer spacer Academic Excellence Conference Abstract Guidelines

10th Annual AEC, Saturday, March 27, 2010

An abstract to be submitted to the AEC committee is the most crucial part of your proposal. It should describe the results/conclusions of your research project and, where applicable, methods you have used. It should not exceed 150 words and should be written in language that is free from jargon and that can be understood by both a disciplinary expert and a reasonably informed non-specialist. A faculty member who acts as your project mentor must review and approve your abstract. For group presentations, participants should submit only one proposal.

Please follow the guidelines below:

Format:

  • 150 word limit
  • No typographical or spelling errors
  • Follow standard usage of grammar and punctuation

Examples of Appropriate Conference Abstracts

Your abstract is a formal piece of writing. If accepted, it will appear in the AEC program. Work with your faculty mentor to write and revise several drafts before submitting it for review.

Upon review of your abstract the committee will make one of the following recommendations:

Accept: Congratulations! Your abstract is accepted. Please work with your faculty/staff mentor to prepare for the conference.

Accept with Minor Revision: Please work with your faculty/staff mentor to revise the abstract addressing issues identified by reviewers. Resubmit your proposal by Friday, February 5, 2010.

Denied: The AEC Committee regrets to inform you that your proposal has been denied.
