Financial Aid: Financial aid is available at Keene State College. A loan is available which covers the cost of the program fee and graduate credits. Contact the internship director for more information.
Americorp: Interns have the opportunity to earn federal loan payment vouchers through the Americorp program. A voucher can be earned during the community rotation as long as the intern also participates in three trainings. Interns apply to Americorp for membership and the number of available memberships varies from year to year.
Transportation: You are responsible for means and cost of all transportation. There is limited public bus transportation within the Keene city limits, and most internship experiences are outside the bus route. Therefore, you will need to have a reliable, cost effective car. Clinical practice sites may be located up to 70 miles from Keene. Foodservice and community rotation drives vary. Most facilities provide free parking, but students may have to pay for parking at some rotation sites. You will need to provide proof of auto insurance prior to beginning the program. Out of state applicants, please take note of the winter weather driving conditions. Snow tires are encouraged for safe winter driving and may cost a couple hundred dollars.
Housing: You are responsible for providing your own housing. If you are coming from outside the area, you may contact the internship director for assistance in locating housing. Average cost for a room in the Keene area is $400 per month and an average cost of a 1-bedroom apartment in the Keene area is $800 per month. Apartments outside of Keene may be less.
Meals: You are responsible for supplying your own meals.
Dress: Interns are required to adhere to the practice facilities' dress codes, which usually includes professional dress. Some clinical sites require a lab coat to be worn. You are responsible for supplying your own lab coat at an approximate cost of $30.
Miscellaneous Costs: You will be required to buy some reference books at a combined cost of approximately $300 to support your clinical rotations. A list will be provided after being accepted into the program. All other program materials will be provided to you free of charge. You will also be reimbursed for some reasonable costs incurred for assigned projects completed during internship rotations, but those expenses must be pre-approved by the internship director. The program has access to a variety of resources in addition to those at the Keene State College library. You are encouraged to have any of your personal nutrition or management-related textbooks and other resources available for use during the program.
You are responsible for payment of the ADA student membership fee prior to entering the program and any fees required for professional meetings attended during the program, unless otherwise specified by the internship director. You will be required to provide documentation of your ADA student membership prior to the beginning of the program at a cost of approximately $50.
Insurance: You are required to provide your own health and auto insurance. You are required to provide documentation of heath and auto insurance prior to the beginning of the program. Professional liability insurance is required and is provided by the college.
Pre-program Physical: Documentation of a current physical examination is required prior to entering the program. Proof of OSHA-required immunizations and tests these include proof of TB (PPD) test within the last 6 months, MMR vaccine or proof of immunity, chicken pox immunity, and the Hepatitis B series or signed declination. A statement that you are medically cleared to participate in the program is also required. A urine analysis drug test may be administered at internship sites.
Background Criminal Check: Each student is required to present a criminal background report at the start of the program. This can be obtained from the local or state police and cost varies. Many of our agencies require this documentation.
E-mail Access: You are responsible for independent daily e-mail access. Internship communication relies on e-mail. It is required that the interns have their own computer or e-mail server at home.
Students must provide proof of auto and health insurances, the preprogram physical including OSHA required immunizations and tests, criminal background check and the ADA affiliate membership to the internship director on the first day of orientation.
