Secondary Methods II: Social Studies

Course Summary: This course includes advanced secondary methods of instruction including standards- based unit plans, current issues, and reflective professional practice. Placements usually include: observation, tutoring, grading, group assistance, creation of bulletin boards, record keeping, and teaching. The placement could include 2 students per classroom.

Students teach 3 lessons during the semester. Students submit a field notebook with weekly visitation log, lesson plans, and observations to their KSC faculty supervisor.

Cooperating teachers are expected to complete 2 formal observations and conference with their Methods II students. A KSC faculty member will complete 1 formal observation corresponding with the student’s teaching of their lessons and conference with the student afterwards.

Field experience: 30 hours/semester. Days and times coordinated between students and cooperating teachers.
