Electronic Résumé Tips
- Have a strong focus on a concept and keep that concept in mind as the résumé is created
- Find and use key words contained in the job description
- Use nouns and key words of the industry field
- Use a traditional résumé format
- Use a standard font type
- Use a 10-14 pt font size
- Avoid vertical lines, graphics, italics, underlining and shading
- Make sure your name is the first text line with address immediately below
- Omit parentheses around area code
- Leave least 1/4 inch of white space surrounding horizontal lines
- Do not use unusually heavy paper that might have problems feeding through a fax machine, copier or used in a scanner
- Use a simple, unadorned, uncluttered look to résumé
- Limit or do not use boldface type - can pose a problem for some scanners
- Limit or do not use bullets
- Do not send multiple copies to the same organization
